To further strengthen cleanliness arrangements in agricultural produce markets across Uttar Pradesh and provide farmers with clean and better facilities, Jitendra Pratap Singh, Director of the State Agricultural Produce Market Council, has directed the launch of the ‘Swachh Mandi-Shubh Mandi Abhiyan-2026’.
The State Agricultural Produce Market Council has directed all mandis and sub-market yards across the state to undertake a large-scale special cleanliness drive in October 2026.
The campaign will focus on cleaning accumulated waste, clogged drains, waterlogged areas, toilets, auction platforms, shops and farmers’ rest houses within market premises.
During the campaign, sanitation contractors engaged by market committees have been instructed to deploy all their sanitation workers and carry out cleaning operations on a war footing. Every section of the market premises will be covered. Special attention will be given to identifying and cleaning waste-clogged drains and areas prone to waterlogging.
Considering the increased arrivals of paddy and other agricultural produce during October, along with the upcoming festive season, special emphasis has also been laid on ensuring smooth traffic and transportation arrangements in the mandis.
Under the campaign, instructions have been issued to remove accumulated waste from drains around auction platforms within the market premises and ensure the cleaning of the platforms and their associated structures. In areas prone to dampness, lime powder or Gamaxine will be sprinkled, as directed, after the removal of waste.
Instructions have been issued to ensure the cleanliness of toilets, washrooms and urinals in market premises, along with proper water supply and drainage facilities. Areas prone to waterlogging around toilets will receive special attention, and lime will be sprinkled there regularly.
Cleanliness and necessary upkeep of office buildings and farmers’ rest houses will also be prioritised. Locations where new civil works, electrical works or repair activities are underway within market premises will be identified separately. Instructions have also been issued to remove unused materials and construction debris left behind after the completion of work during the campaign.
