Lucknow: Setting a record of sorts, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) has hired 1.54 lakh policemen in the last five years.
As per police records, the (UPPRPB) was established in 2009. From 2009 till March 2017 only 49,965 policemen were recruited by the Board. However, from 2017 to June 2023, a total of 1.54 lakh policemen were recruited.
Special director general of police, law and order, Prashant Kumar, said on the compensatory grounds as many as 2492 recruitments were made.
The board has not only made the recruitments but also got promotions done which too is a record of sorts.
“As many as 1.29 lakh police personnel of different ranks have been promoted from 2017 to 2023,” said Kumar adding that from 2009 to 2016 only 47,211 cops were promoted.
He added that appointments to 52,699 constables in different wings of UP police are underway.
“To end the woes of lack of administration in jails, process for recruitment of 2833 jail warders is also on,” said Kumar and added that for the first time 521 posts have been created especially for sports quota.
