10 get life term for double murder over village head poll rivalry

Lucknow: An Ambedkarnagar court in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday convicted and awarded life terms to 10 suspects charged with the double murder of rivals in the election for the head of Mallupur Majgwan village in 2021.

The court also fined the convicts Rs 53,500 each.

Abhishek Srivastava, additional district and sessions judge, gave the verdict bringing to an end the case, which pertains to the killing of one Anil Mishra and his elder brother, Surendra Mishra, who were gunned down on January 4, 2021.

The convicts are Amit Singh, his father Jagdamba Singh, Chandrashekhar alias Pappu, Chandrabhan Singh, Santosh Singh, Bharat Yadav, Nagendra Pandey, Rajiv Pandey, Babloo Pandey, and Chhoti Yadav.

A senior police officer said on January 4, 2021, Anil Mishra, husband of Mallupur village head, Kiran Mishra, and Surendra Mishra, were shot dead by the convicts.

Police registered a case against 7 suspects, naming 6 of them, and one other unknown assailant. Later, police filed a charge sheet against 10 suspects in the stipulated 4-week period.

Bechu Singh Yadav, SHO of Raje Sultanpur, said Amit Singh, who belonged to a neighboring village, got his name inserted in the family register of Mallupur Majgwan, to contest against the then village head, Kiran Mishra.

“On the fateful day, Mishra brothers went to the tehsil to register their protest regarding Singh’s inclusion in the family register of their village. On their way back, they were shot dead,” Yadav said.
