10 UP cops get Union home min’s medal for excellence

Lucknow: An additional SP along with nine other policemen from the state were awarded the ‘Union home minister’s medal for excellence in investigation’. The medals were announced on Saturday for 2023 and have been awarded to 140 police personnel from across the country and in all police wings.

Special DG, law and order, Prashant Kumar said that additional SP Poornendu Kumar Singh was awarded the medal for impeccable investigation in a 2012 dowry death case in which conviction was served in a record time due to his efforts.

Kumar said that others who received the prestigious award for supervising and investigating different cases include police circle officers Sanjay Kumar Reddy, Sanjay Verma and Gajendra Pal Singh, police inspectors Vipin Kumar Singh, Shyam Bahadur, Yogendra Singh and Patiram Yadav and sub-inspectors Manoj Kumar and Arvind Kumar Singh.

Kumar said that this medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to promote high professional standards of investigation of crime and recognize such excellence in investigation. It is announced on August 12 every year.

This year, 15 personnel from CBI, 12 from NIA, nine each from Kerala and Rajasthan, eight from Tamil Nadu, seven from Madhya Pradesh, six from Gujarat and the remaining from the other states, UTs and organizations were awarded. These also include 22 women police officers.
