Dev Anand, born on 26 September 1923 in Shakargarh of undivided Punjab, had built a bungalow in Juhu in those days when human activity was rare here. There used to be a fishermen’s camp on Juhu beach and in those days, when Dev Anand got bored of the cinematic noise and bustle limited to main Mumbai, he used to come to this bungalow there. This incident happened in 1950. Later, when film studios moved out of Mumbai city, most of the film work started happening in Andheri suburb. In that respect, this place was also suitable for Dev Anand.

But Dev Anand, accustomed to living in solitude, did not like the increasing crowd in Juhu. There used to be a magnificent and green park in front of his house. Dev Anand felt suffocated due to the absence of this park and construction of other bungalows there. The deal for the Juhu bungalow that has been sold is said to be around Rs 400 crore. Right now only the talks have reached the final stage and its paperwork is yet to be done.
The main reason for selling the bungalow is now believed to be the absence of any heir of Dev Anand in Mumbai. After his father’s demise in 2011, his son Sunil Anand also rarely comes here. He has settled his family in London. Dev Anand’s daughter Devina now lives in Ooty. With her mother Kalpana Karthik. After marrying Kalpana in 1954, Dev Anand lived in this bungalow for years with his two children. But, now the heirs of this sign want to get away from its care.
