11 arrested in Bahraich for carrying out illegal conversion

Lucknow: Eleven people were arrested for allegedly indulging in illegal religious conversion in Siddhanpurva village of Bahraich district, police said on Monday.

Though a case was lodged against 22 people, 11 were arrested and sent to jail on Monday and the women were granted bail from SDM court.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Prashant Verma said a case was lodged on the complaint of Bajrang Dal activist Deepak Srivastava who alleged that a villager in Majra Siddhanpurwa village under Kotwali Nanpara was involved in illegal conversions at his church-like building at home.

Deepak, vibhaag sanyojak of Bajrang Dal, alleged that the pastor and his wife were luring the villagers to convert to Christianity by promising to cure their diseases, including cancer.

The SP said action was taken against the accused for breach of peace.
