Lucknow: Two women were found living with the corpse of their mother for the past one year in Varanasi. This fact came to light on Wednesday when a team from Lanka police station broke into their house and found Pallavi (27) and her sister Vaishviki (18) with the body of their mother Usha Tiwari (52), which had been reduced to a skeleton.
The sisters told the police that their mother had died of illness in December last year and they had no money to cremate her. Police claimed the sisters are mentally unstable.
The family lives in Maderva Chittupur area of Lanka in the city. The sisters said their father lives in Ballia and had not visited them for the past two years.
A relative of the women had informed the police that no one was opening the house’s door despite repeated attempts. Thereafter, a police team reached the house and entered it. The doors of the house were broken amid videography. When cops entered the house, they found the woman’s skeleton in one room while the daughters were sitting in the other room.
Lanka police station inspector Shivkant Mishra said the skeleton has been sent for further investigation. He ruled out any criminal angle in the case.
The police said the sisters would step out occasionally to buy grocery and vegetables, and had even borrowed money from their neighbours. Neighbours told the police that they had no clue that the two sisters were living with their mother’s corpse.
Asked how they managed to live in the house despite the foul smell, the women told the police they used to cover the body and mostly spent time on the house’s terrace.
Pallavi told the police that she is a postgraduate while Vaishviki studied in Class 10 but had dropped out of school last year.
