Lucknow: Five MBBS second year students of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College were on Saturday debarred from attending college for 6 months (one semester) and fined Rs 25,000 each for indulging in physical ragging of their juniors.
The victims lodged a complaint against their seniors with the college authorities a couple of days ago. Twenty more students have been fined Rs 25,000 each in the matter.
Reports said the 1st (2022 batch) and 2nd year (2021 batch) medical students were lodged at the hostel of Para Medical College. Here, some incidents of physical ragging by their immediate seniors were reported by the 1st year students to the medical college authorities.
The college administration took prompt action and a meeting of the anti-ragging committee of the medical college was summoned in which the decision for punitive action was taken.
Sources at the medical college said the complainants also showed the committee videos clips of the ragging sessions by their seniors.
Dr Mayank Singh, vice-principal of the medical college, said they took immediate action after verifying the facts.
