28 February: Day of India’s biggest achievement in physics

28 February is celebrated as Science Day in the country. This is the day when the country’s great scientist CV Raman invented the ‘Raman Effect’, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.

The great physicist Sir Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman made an important discovery in the serious subject of physics on 28 February 1928. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for his important discovery on the change in light rays when passing through a transparent substance. He was the first scientist not only from India but also from Asia to receive this award. In honor of this discovery, there is a trend of celebrating this day as National Science Day since 1986. In 1954, the Government of India awarded Sir Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman the highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna.
