3 children burnt alive as hut catches fire, parents critical

Lucknow: Three infants were burnt alive while their parents were critically injured in an accidental fire in their hut in UP’s Firozabad on Saturday night.

SP (rural) Ranvijay Singh said on Sunday that the two infants died on the spot while another succumbed to burns in hospital. Their parents were admitted to a hospital in critical condition, he said, adding the cause of the fire at Dera Banjara in Jasrana area is yet to be ascertained.

Shakeel, 30, had got a house under the PM Awas scheme, which was under construction. He lived in a hut nearby with his wife and three children.

The incident happened around 11pm Saturday, when Shakeel was asleep with his family. The fire spread quickly and engulfed the hut, burning his son Anish (4) and daughter Reshma (1) alive. Samana, his 6-year-old daughter, succumbed to injuries in hospital.

Shakeel and his wife, Nemzadi, were rushed to the SN Medical College in Agra. Local residents said Shakeel managed to come out of the hut, but when he didn’t find his wife and kids there, he went inside to get them out.

Sub-divisional magistrate, Adesh Singh Sengar, said, “Two of three instalments under the PM Awas scheme were provided to the family to build a house. A report about the accident will be sent to the state government for financial assistance to the parents.”

Last year in November, three adults and three children of a family died in a fire incident due to a short circuit in an inverter battery, in Jasrana block of Firozabad district.
