
Lucknow: Three men were arrested on Saturday for allegedly thrashing a 32-year-old man. The accused are autorickshaw drivers while the victim used to be an autorickshaw driver. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the man was beaten up over an old rivalry. A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media platforms.
The accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar (26), a resident of Bulandshahr, Shaan Mohammad (32), and Danish (27), both residents of Surajpur in Noida. According to police,
the accused have previous crime records like cases of theft and the Arms Act, 1959 registered against them in Surajpur police station.
At the time of the incident, the complainant, Ankit Pratap Singh, a resident of Dadri, was travelling in an autorickshaw from Surajpur to Dadri. He now owns an auto and has employed someone to drive and earn from it.
DCP of central Noida, Suniti said that allegedly a dispute broke out between Singh and Kumar over a passenger. On October 3 around 11.15pm, Singh was at Surajpur auto stand where Kumar and his accomplices assaulted him in public. They hit a brick on his head causing Singh to collapse unconscious. “During investigation, the victim had identified one of the accused—Danish—through the CCTV footage,” Suniti said.
On Friday, a one-minute CCTV camera video of the incident surfaced on social media platforms, in which the three accused can be seen assaulting Singh at the roadside with bricks and sticks, while bystanders gather.
Three teams were formed to nab the three men and were tracked down on Saturday evening.
Surajpur police station has booked the accused under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace),506 (criminal intimidation) and 336 Act (endangering life or personal safety of others).
