Lucknow: An 8-year-old boy was left with severe injuries in the face and chest after he was attacked by a Pit bull while playing at a park in Govindpuri area of Ghaziabad district on Thursday evening. Doctors said Ansh might need surgery to recover from the wide gashes.
Ansh’s father, Rakesh, said one of his neighbours had recently brought the Pit bull home and left the dog to play in the park while it was not on leash.
“It was around 5 in the evening. My son was playing in the park when the dog attacked him all of a sudden. Alerted by his cries, we rushed inside to see what had happened. Had we not intervened, my son could have been mauled or killed,” he said.
Originally from Prayagraj, Ansh lives with his parents at a rented house in Govindpuri and studies in Class 2 of a government school.
“The owner should have kept the dog on leash at least. It is because of his carelessness that my son is in such pain,” said Rakesh, who sells sugarcane juice for a living.
Ansh was taken to a local community health centre, where he was given first aid. He was, however, referred to the Combined Hospital in Sanjay Nagar as the health centre lacked anti-rabies injection. “The child will have to undergo a surgery to recover fully,” a doctor said.
Gyan Prakash Rai, ACP (Modinagar), said, “As of now, we have not received any complaint from the boy’s family. If they lodge one, we will initiate action.”
