Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s new Parliament complex on Sunday, marking the end of three years of construction work. The new building is part of the government’s Central Vista revamp project and aims to provide greater space and modern amenities for parliamentarians. However, the event has been mired in controversy after 21 opposition parties decided to boycott it, arguing that President Droupadi Murmu should have presided over the inauguration, not Modi. The new complex will replace India’s existing colonial-era Parliament building, built in 1927.
