Lucknow: Six days after burnt bodies of two women, both aged 35, were found packed in polythene bags in Budaun, seven persons including the owner of a cold storage unit were arrested on Monday. With the arrest, UP Police has now claimed to have “solved the case”.
The two victims, both married and living with their families, used to work as labourers at the cold storage unit. Three other workers, including their supervisor, allegedly killed the women after the assault. The bodies were kept in an ammonia tank overnight and later dumped in a pond.
On July 4, police had recovered the bodies from the pond in Bachi village under Ushait police limits. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as strangulation and slides were made by the doctors for confirmation of sexual assault.
Police had initially registered an FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) against unidentified persons but after gathering more evidence slapped the accused also with sections 376-D (gang rape), 201 (disappearance of evidence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
SSP OP Singh said on Monday, “The two women were murdered on July 3 by three co-workers — Ibne Hasan, Ajay Sharma and Mukesh Pal. We have found seven people to be involved in the crime.”
“Next morning, the cold storage owner’s son Mayur Gupta, Ramveer alias Pappu, Ramratan Yadav and Pradeep Yadav saw the body and started to panic. The seven accused packed the bodies in polythene sacks used for vegetables and dumped them in a pond. The accused have been identified and sent to jail,” said SSP.
