AU lodges FIR against ex-IPS officer for disturbing peace

Lucknow:  Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur was booked by Prayagraj Police on Friday for unlawful assembly and disturbing peace on Allahabad University campus. He has been accused of making an attempt to enter the campus without permission on July 19 to join the students protesting against a student’s death.

Proctor of the university, Rakesh Singh, lodged the FIR against Thakur, who is also the president of Azad Adhikar Sena, and 20 others with Colonelganj police station under Section 143 (unlawful assembly), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (any deliberate disobedience of an order that is duly promulgated by a public servant empowered by law to do so) and 283 (obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the IPC.

The proctor also accused the former IPS officer of instigating students against the varsity and involving in staging a sit-in, slogan shouting and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere inside the campus. Thakur was also accused of making an attempt to tarnish the image of the university before the media.

The proctor alleged that the administrative work inside the campus got disturbed due to activities of the former IPS officer.
