

Lucknow: A seven-year-old girl student was killed and seven other children sustained injuries when the school van carrying them was hit by a speeding loader near Laxmanpur block road under the limits of Leelapur police station in Pratapgarh district on Monday morning. The incident, according to police, took place at 7:30 am when the van was ferrying children of a local private school in Leelapur.
The deceased, identified as Mansi Saroj, resident of Patulki village, died on the spot. All the seven kids who were injured, Yash Prajapati (7), Ayush Prajapati (8), Naina Saroj (8), Kartik Saroj (8), Sanjana (9), Vaibhav Singh (8) and Arpita Singh( 8), all residents of Patulki, were taken to the Lalganj Community Health Centre. Doctors referred Yash Prajapati along with the injured driver Shariq (50) to the district hospital in Pratapgarh.
Senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot for rescue, while scores of villagers too assembled at the incident site and hospital and demanded action against the errant driver of the loader. Locals blocked the Laxmanpur road for an hour to protest against the incident. The driver of the loader was later arrested.
Leelapur SHO Subhash Yadav said “ Police have been probing if driver of the school van had valid documents and driving licence to as the van was associated with the school.” Besides, they have also been checking the physical fitness of the vehicle and report will be come out shortly.
