Lucknow: Two members of an inter-district ‘Baddik Marwari Ghumuntu’ gang sustained bullet injuries and were arrested after an encounter with police near village Lalgopalganj on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway under the limits of Nawabganj police station in trans-Ganga of Prayagraj district early Sunday.
The injured robbers Dheerendra alias Laddu and Kushalpal alias Krishna, residents of Ishapur Milkiya village ( Shahjahanpur) were admitted at SRN hospital for treatment.
Two accomplices of the gang including Dayaram and Nanhe alias Jairam, residents of Eshapur were also arrested while trying to flee Lucknow, police said and added that Rs 73,064 cash , looted silver and gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, two country made pistols of 0.315 bore along with two used cartridges, two sharp edge weapons, sticks, along with cheque book, Pass Book, Aadhar Card, voter card, E-shram card were recovered from their possession.
The gang was intercepted by joint team of Nawabganj, Tharwai police and Special Operation Group (SOG – Trans Ganga) while planning to escape Lucknow to evade police action. Train tickets were also seized from their possession.
The gang admitted to have executed Hetapatti daoity ( Tharwari) where a private watchman was killed and three members a trader’s family sustained serious injuries after they were attacked and brutally assaulted by the gang members.
Apart from arrest of four men, cops have also arrested five more women who were involved in conducting recee of jewellery shops in trans-Ganga area.
The arrested women were identified as Beladevi (wife of Dayaram), Shanti Devi (wife of Dhirendra alias Laddu), Vedbati (wife of Nanhe), Leelawati (wife of Kripal) and Gangadevi alias Jhilmila (wife of Baliram), all residents of Ishapur Milkiya.
Interestingly, gang members used to change their numbers and attire after executing one crime to another, claimed the police.
“After the arrest of Shahjahanpur based robbers gang in Shakargarh three days back, cops received tips about the a particular ‘Baddik Marwari Ghumantu gang’ who had allegedly executed Tharwai dacoity in trans-Ganga pocket of the district”, Commissioner of police, Ramit Sharma said adding, “A joint team of Nawabganj, Tharwai and SOG intercepted the gang near Lalgopalganj area at 3:30 am (early sunday) when they were planning to escape Lucknow” he added.
As cops tried to catch criminals, they opened fire on police parties and cops too retaliated and two of the criminals were injured in exchange of fire.
On the inputs provided by injured robbers, the cops later managed to arrest two of their accomplices and five women who were part of the gang.
Police said arrested Dayaram and Dhirendra alias Laddu had 11 and eight criminal cases respectively registered against them in police records.
Sharma said, “The Ghumantu gang arrived Hetapatti area of Prayagraj district about a week back from Bareilly and its members were taking shelter after setting up their huts in different parts of the district”.
