Uttarkhand Weather: Warning of heavy rain in Uttarakhand, Meteorological Department issued red alert in these 6 districts

Dehradun: Amid the continuing rains at various places in Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rainfall in six districts of Uttarakhand for Sunday and Monday. Due to incessant rains at various places in the state, the process of opening and closing of roads continued and normal life was affected. The Meteorological Department has warned of intense to very heavy spells of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places during the red alert.

Order to keep schools closed in Dehradun and Champawat
In view of the department’s warning, the government has directed the District Magistrates of the concerned districts and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to remain in 24-hour alert mode so that in case of any disaster, people can be helped immediately by reaching the spot. In the latest forecast issued by the Dehradun Meteorological Center, red alert for rain has been issued for Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts and orange alert for Haridwar district. In view of the red alert, the District Magistrates of Dehradun and Champawat have ordered closure of schools from class one to 12 on Monday.

Traffic blocked due to landslide
Officials said that due to incessant rains, landslides on other roads, including national highways, blocked traffic, affecting the movement of people. He said Rishikesh-Chamba National Highway was blocked for traffic due to landslide near Kunjapuri Bagardhar in Tehri while Rishikesh-Devprayag-Srinagar National Highway was closed for heavy vehicles at Sakhnidhar in Kodiyala. He said that normal life has been badly affected in the state due to excessive rains and this year due to excessive rains, natural calamities like landslides, floods and cloud bursts have also caused loss of life and property in the state.
