Raksha Bandhan 2023: Indian Diaspora Member Welcomes PM Narendra Modi in South Africa with ‘Rakhi’ Thali

A heartfelt gesture to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to South Africa, Yashika Singh, a member of the Indian diaspora and a media professional at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, prepared a ‘Rakhi’ Thali. Expressing the sentiment of protection and unity, Yashika Singh emphasized that despite the distance, PM Modi remains a brother to the Indian community.

PM Modi embarked on his journey to South Africa today to attend the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, invited by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. Anticipating fruitful bilateral meetings, PM Modi highlighted the importance of BRICS as a platform for addressing global concerns and promoting cooperation. He stated, “BRICS has been pursuing a strong cooperation agenda across various sectors. We value that BRICS has become a platform for discussing and deliberating on issues of concern for the entire Global South, including development imperatives and reform of the multilateral system.”

The BRICS Summit, comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, aims to enhance mutual growth, sustainable development, and inclusive multilateralism. This in-person summit marks a significant moment after three years of virtual meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the BRICS Summit, PM Modi is set to visit Athens, Greece, at the invitation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
