The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha as the Chairman and CEO of Railway Board. Sinha will replace Anil Kumar Lahoti as the new Chairman and CEO (Railway Board) and will assume charge on September 1, 2023. She is also the first woman chairman of the Railway Board. Vijayalakshmi Vishwanathan was the first woman member of the Railway Board.Sinha, a 1988 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service officer, is currently serving as Member (Operations and Business Development), Railway Board. She will take charge of the Board at a time when Indian Railways has received record budgetary allocations from the Central Government.
