Lucknow: Police on Friday arrested a youth for allegedly stabbing a 21-year-old woman multiple times after she rejected his overtures.
The incident took place in Vrindavan Yojna area on Wednesday late night while the FIR was registered on Friday.
The woman, a daughter of a retired army man, is critically injured and admitted to the Command Hospital.
The main accused Pankaj Rawat has been arrested while his two other accomplices in the crime are elusive, the police said.
According to police, the victim woman was returning home after giving tuition to children in the Vrindavan Yojna locality when Pankaj started stalking her.
“On a deserted stretch, Pankaj, along with two of his aides, intercepted her and asked for her phone number first, adding that they wanted to call to their home and their phone batteries had run out,” said the police.
The woman soon sensed the diabolic design and refused to give her number.
Furious over this, Pankaj pulled her to thickets where they put her dupatta around her throat as she resisted their attempt to molest her and pulled her down and then stabbed her, said the police.
When the victim ceased to resist the attack because of the pain, the accused assumed she was dead and ran away. The victim somehow reached her residence and narrated her ordeal.
According to her father, the miscreants attempted to molest and kill her. “Pankaj had an evil design for her for a long time and he along with his friends attempted to kill her as she resisted them,” he said.
Meanwhile, mayor Sushma Kharakwal visited Command Hospital and met the victim and her family. She assured the victim’s family of providing all possible help, and strict action against the accused.
Additional DCP, east zone, Syed Ali Abbas, said that the accused have been identified and detained.
The officer added that accused Pankaj and the victim woman were acquainted with each other and the woman had distanced herself from the relationship and stopped talking to the accused, even changing her contact number.
Failing to get a hearing with the girl, the accused tried to stop her and ask for her number. When she refused, they attacked her,” said the officer.
The FIR has been registered. “The arrest of the accused took place on the basis of the video statement of the victim,” said the police.
