On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a significant announcement regarding the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana.

Starting from the 2024-25 financial year, the scheme, which supports underprivileged girls, will see a notable increase of Rs 10,000 in its funding.

Previously, the program provided a total package of Rs 15,000 to eligible girls, distributed in six phases, spanning from their birth to their graduation. However, this amount will now be raised to Rs 25,000 beginning the next fiscal year.

Chief Minister Adityanath conveyed this uplifting news while addressing the beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala scheme at Lok Bhavan. He emphasized, “The double engine government is set to augment the Kanya Sumangala scheme’s financial support from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, commencing in the financial year 2024-25. This step will facilitate the aspirations of the state’s daughters, enabling them to become self-reliant and educated.”

According to officials, this augmented amount will be disbursed as follows, starting from the upcoming year: upon a girl’s birth, Rs 5,000 will be deposited into her parents’ account; at the age of one, Rs 2,000 will be allocated; upon entering the first grade, Rs 3,000 will be granted; when reaching the sixth grade, Rs 3,000 will be provided; upon entering the ninth grade, Rs 5,000 will be bestowed; and if the daughter opts for higher education, such as a graduate, diploma, or certificate course, Rs 7,000 will be transferred to her account.

Currently, around 16.24 lakh girls in the state are benefiting from this scheme, as reported by officials.

Adityanath emphasized the significance of this move in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative, stating, “The double-engine government firmly believes in ensuring the welfare of every daughter, regardless of discrimination. Every girl should have access to security, protection, and opportunities for progress.”

The Chief Minister also assured that all underprivileged girls in the state would be encompassed by various government schemes, including the provision of ration cards and participation in the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

During the event, some beneficiaries of the Kanya Sumangala scheme tied rakhi to the Chief Minister, and he transferred a sum of Rs 5.82 crore to the accounts of 29,523 beneficiaries. Additionally, he distributed cheques to ten beneficiary girls and their parents.
