BS Yediyurappa Reconsiders BJP-JD(S) Alliance Statement, Awaits Modi-Shah Decision

Former Chief Minister and BJP stalwart B S Yediyurappa has backtracked on his earlier statement made just two days ago regarding the BJP’s electoral understanding with the Janata Dal (Secular) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He clarified on Sunday that discussions on this matter have not reached a final decision.

Yediyurappa also indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah may engage in discussions and make a decision on the matter within a couple of days.

“As Modiji is occupied with other issues, it is likely that discussions will take place after a few days. Up to this point, there have been no formal discussions. We will need to wait for further updates,” Yediyurappa conveyed, as reported by PTI.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he elaborated, “When I made my earlier statement, there was no definitive conclusion reached. Even now, the matter remains unsettled. Prime Minister, Amit Shah, and other leaders will engage in discussions and reach a decision. Until then, we must exercise patience. Given that Modiji and others are occupied today and tomorrow, it is likely that discussions may occur in two to three days.”

On Friday, the veteran BJP leader had declared that the BJP and JD(S) would form an alliance for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for next year. He mentioned that, as part of this electoral understanding, the JD(S) would contest in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka, a state with a total of 28 parliamentary seats.

“The BJP and JD(S) will join forces. (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah has agreed to allocate four Lok Sabha seats to the JD(S). This alliance will significantly strengthen us and potentially lead to victory in 25 to 26 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka,” Yediyurappa had stated. This announcement came amid speculations that former Prime Minister Deve Gowda had met with Amit Shah and BJP President J P Nadda during his visit to Delhi on September 4, following a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom he shares an amicable rapport, as reported by The Indian Express.
