Heavy Rains in Uttar Pradesh Claim 28 Lives, Red Alert in Six Districts

Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh for the third consecutive day has resulted in the death toll rising to 28, with a red alert issued on Tuesday for six districts, including the hardest-hit areas of Barabanki and Gonda. During the past 48 hours, seven districts in the state have recorded over 100 mm of rainfall, while ten others have received 50 mm of rain. In specific regions of Bahraich and Barabanki, there has been an excess of 250 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

According to the Relief Commissioner’s office, nine fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours (from 6 pm on Monday to 6 pm on Tuesday). Among these, five were attributed to lightning strikes, two to excessive rainfall, and one each to drowning. The affected districts include Mirzapur (three deaths), Prayagraj (two deaths), Sitapur (two deaths), Sultanpur (one death), and Budaun (one death).
