Breaking away from global trends, India has witnessed a significant 76% reduction in its solar module imports from China in the first half of 2023. This reduction reflects India’s strong commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in solar manufacturing, according to a recent report.

Comparing year-on-year figures, India’s solar module imports from China have declined from 9.8 GW in the first half of 2022 to just 2.3 GW in the same period of 2023, as highlighted in a report by the global energy think tank Ember.

This strategic shift, accompanied by the imposition of tariffs, emphasizes India’s resolve to minimize its reliance on imports and instead prioritize the growth of its domestic manufacturing capabilities.
