
In a significant development, the Defence Ministry has granted approval for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI fighter jets destined for the Indian Air Force (IAF). These aircraft will be manufactured in India under the aegis of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This monumental project, valued at Rs 11,000 crores, encompasses both the aircraft and associated ground systems. Notably, these Su-30 MKI aircraft will boast over 60 percent indigenous content, aligning with the stipulated requirements. Defence officials have confirmed that these aircraft will be equipped with cutting-edge Indian weaponry and sensor systems, making them the most advanced Su-30 MKI variants in the IAF’s fleet.
Additionally, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has officially granted its “Acceptance of Necessity” (AON) for this transformative endeavour, marking a significant milestone for India’s defence capabilities.
