Amid the recent strain in India-Canada relations, the indefinite suspension of visa services

Canadian nationals by India has raised concerns among Punjabis residing in Canada, their relatives in India, and students aspiring to study in Canada. This development has sparked worries about potential travel obstacles.

As per available information, there are approximately nine lakh Punjabis living and working in Canada, with over 50% of them belonging to the Sikh community and holding Canadian citizenship. Among this population are thousands of students from Punjab who travel to Canada each year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students going abroad has decreased by half.

It is worth noting that studying in Canada and subsequently obtaining permanent resident (PR) status is a popular pathway to Canadian citizenship.
