Islamabad: In a devastating incident, at least 52 people, including a police officer, lost their lives, and over 50 others sustained injuries in what authorities suspect to be a suicide blast near a mosque in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Friday, as reported by Dawn.
This marks the second major explosion in the district this September.
According to officials, the explosion occurred near the Madina Mosque, where people had gathered to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi.
Station House Officer (SHO) Javed Lehri mentioned that the injured are being transported to medical facilities, while emergency measures have been implemented in the hospitals.
Assistant Commissioner of Mastung, Atta Ul Munim, stated that the explosion appeared to be of a “massive” nature and took place near Madina Mosque. He added that people had assembled for a religious procession afterward.
The district administration has confirmed the unfortunate demise of Mastung’s Superintendent of Police (DSP), Nawaz Gashkori.
Critically injured individuals are being transferred to Quetta, and an emergency has been declared in hospitals across the city, according to Provincial Caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai.
Sindh Interim Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar has strongly condemned the blast, denouncing those responsible for taking the lives of innocent people as the “enemies of humanity.”
Maulana Owais Noorani, a leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP), expressed profound sadness about the casualties and injuries in a Twitter post, referring to those behind the blast as “wretched beasts.”
Earlier, 11 people, including Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah, were injured in a blast in Balochistan’s Mastung district.
Mobile phone footage broadcast on television showed a wounded Hamdullah supported by two individuals as he spoke.
Assistant Commissioner Attaul Muneem of Mastung confirmed that 11 people were injured in the incident.
In a prior incident, a Frontier Constabulary (FC) official was killed, and eight others, including two civilians, were injured in a blast in Peshawar, Pakistan.
The explosion occurred near the Prime Hospital Complex on Warsak Road. Warsak Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Arshad Khan confirmed that a vehicle of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa FC’s Mohmand Rifles regiment was targeted in the attack at around 10:30 am (local time).
The vehicle was en route from Machni to Peshawar when the blast occurred. Mohammad Arshad Khan reported that one Frontier Constabulary (FC) official lost his life, while six FC officials and two civilians were injured, as per Dawn’s report.
