Congress on Sunday appointed its senior leader Ajay Maken as the new treasurer in place of Pawan Kumar Bansal. Maken is considered a close confidant of Rahul Gandhi and has not held any post since he resigned as Congress general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan a few months ago. Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal said in a statement, “The party president has appointed Ajay Maken as the treasurer of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) with immediate effect.” The statement said, “The contribution of the outgoing party treasurer Pawan Kumar Bansal.” Bansal was appointed interim treasurer after the death of Ahmed Patel.
