The Delhi government had claimed an increase in revenue by implementing a new excise policy on November 17, 2021. However, in July 2022, the then Chief Secretary of Delhi submitted a report to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, citing irregularities in the excise policy. The report alleged discrepancies in the policy and accused the then Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia of benefiting liquor traders inappropriately.
