Lucknow: Three persons, including a couple, were crushed to death under train wheels in two separate incidents on Wednesday night.
Varuna DCP Amit Kumar said Khushbu Sonekar (28) and her husband Govind Sonekar (30) were killed after coming under the wheels of a train near Panchkroshi railway crossing in Sarnath late on Wednesday. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem, he said, adding that during initial investigation, it came to light that Govind was a drunkard and the couple used to fight over the issue frequently.
On Wednesday night, Govind was consuming liquor near his house when Khushbu tried to stop her, after which they started quarrelling. In a fit of rage, Khushbu got on the railway track to kill herself. When Govind went to pull her out of the tracks, a train came and ran over them.
According to their family members, Govind, a fruit vendor, had married Khushbu in 2018 and they had three children.
In another incident, a street vendor, Jitan Prasad (45), who hailed from Rohtas in Bihar and lived here to earn livelihood, was crushed to death by a train near Chandra railway crossing on Wednesday night. He died on the spot. Police sent his body for postmortem.
