NSA against accused in factory blast that killed 7

Lucknow:  Bulandshahr district administration has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the main accused in the blast at an illegal firecrackers manufacturing factory which killed seven people, including minors, about seven months ago, officials said on Saturday.

On March 31, a massive explosion had occurred at a house situated in New Colony behind Daksh Garden near the city’s Dhameda area. Police had registered an FIR against three persons.

Subhash Singh, SHO, Bulandshahr (city) said that on April 3, Rajkumar, Pramod and Prashant Chaudhary were arrested and sent to jail.

The SHO said, “Preliminary investigation found that chemical substances were used to make the fire explosives. The factory was being illegally operated and section 2/3 of the Gangster Act was added to the FIR. Now, after a thorough investigation, the district administration has ordered the invocation of NSA on one of the three accused.”

Bulandshahr district magistrate (DM), Chandra Prakash Singh, said,“The accused, Rajkumar, is a habitual offender and was booked several times in the past. He was illegally running a small unit in the name of ‘Air Star Fire Works’ whose licence was cancelled by us in December 2021.”

The DM further said the accused used to get “highly explosive chemicals via courier”. “It was a risk to national security. It could harm the lives of people anywhere as the materials were transported from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, and other parts of the country. A detailed investigation has been ordered,” Singh said.
