UNESCO: Mawsmai Caves in Meghalaya, India, Recognized as First Indian Geopark Heritage Site.


One of UNESCO’s foremost scientific organizations, the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), has officially recognized Mawsmai Caves in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya as one of the first 100 IUGS geological heritage sites. The complete list of the 100 geological heritage sites will be unveiled during the 60th anniversary celebration of IUGS, which will take place in Zumaya, Spain. The effort to designate 100 geological heritage sites around the world.
