CM Yogi Announces 2L Ex Gratia

Lucknow: As the death toll in wall collapse incident in Mau mounted to eight on Saturday after the death of two more women, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of deceased persons and Rs 50,000 each to those injured.

The CM directed officials to ensure free and proper medical care to injured persons and said that those behind the incident would not be spared.

Expressing grief over the deaths, the CM posted a message on his official X account announcing Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for each person killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured apart from ensuring free treatment.

According to police, the wall built near a private school located at Madhapur Samaspur in Ghosi Kotwali area caved in when a group of women were performing some wedding related rituals for a local resident on Friday. The women were trapped in the debris of the collapsed boundary wall.

UP minister AK Sharma took stock of the care being provided to the injured persons and also met the families of the deceased.

“An FIR has been lodged against Masavvur Hasan and Gayasuddin for improperly dumping debris near their dilapidated boundary wall due to which the wall collapsed,” said additional superintendent of police Mahesh Singh Atri. He said the duo had been booked under sections 268 (public nuisance) and 304 (culpable homicide) of the IPC and they were being interrogated.

Confirming eight deaths in the incident, Sharma said, “It is an unfortunate incident due to which many families lost their loved ones. One of the women who died in the incident was the only earning member of her family. All possible help will be extended to the affected families.”

Sharma said that local authorities had been asked to explore possibilities of helping the families, which have lost earning members, through various government schemes.

Chanda Devi (50), Anvi (3), Madhav (4), Poonam Sharma (42), Puja alias Parul Agrawal (35), and Mira (40), had died till Friday late night, while Sushila Sharma (57) and Lalti (60) succumbed to injuries during treatment on Saturday. At least 21 injured women are still being treated in different hospitals in Mau and Azamgarh.
