Defamation plaint filed against UPCA GM

Lucknow:  The Chakeri police registered a case against general manager of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Rita Dey, on complaint of the Apex Council member, on Wednesday.

On the complaint of a nominee of the Women Players’ Association and an Apex Council member and former Cricketer, Archana Mishra, police lodged a case under sections of Defamation and IT Act against Dey.

Mishra accused Dey of maligning her image through an audio clip that went viral on the social media a few days ago. Mishra said she was not allowed to speak when she had tried to expose the style of working ub the UPCA, during the Apex Council meeting in Jhansi on December 10. Mishra had said that if the disciplinary committee of UPCA did not take any action against Dey, she would file a police case against her.

Chakeri Police Station in charge Ashok Kumar Dubey said, based on the complaint of Archana Mishra, a case was lodged under IPC section 500 (Punishment for defamation) and 67 of the IT Act against Rita Dey. “Further action will be taken on the basis of evidence and necessary findings,” said Dubey.
