Lucknow: A young woman, facing challenges at her in-laws’ home, lost her life after jumping in front of a train. Her mother, attempting to save her, also died after the duo was struck by the train in Sikri village on Friday evening.
Cops said that Meenakshi, in her early twenties, was facing challenges in her in-laws’ home since her marriage a year ago, prompting her return to her maternal home. Living with her mother for several months, she grappled with emotional distress.
On Friday, alarmed by news that her daughter was heading towards the railway line to end her life, Samla Devi (55) rushed to intervene. Both of them died after being hit by the train.
The incident came to light when bystanders witnessed the tragedy and informed the police.
Kiratpur SHO Udai Pratap Singh said, “Meenakshi jumped in front of a passenger train due to family strife. Meanwhile, her mother also lost her life while attempting to save her daughter. Meenakshi had been mentally disturbed for some time, and we are actively investigating the matter to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
