Lucknow: A 31-year-old man was arrested after he decapitated his wife on suspicion of infidelity and later walked on the road with the severed head, in Basara village of Barabanki, on Friday morning, police said.
Barabanki additional superintendent of police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said Anil Kumar had a verbal altercation with his wife, Vandana (26) in the morning.
“Around 7am, Anil spotted Vandana talking to a neighbour, Bhupendra, which led to an argument. It turned nasty when Anil accused his wife of illicit relations with other men. When Vandana retaliated, Anil got furious and he picked up a sickle and beheaded her,” said Sinha.
Later, he carried the severed head in full public view to dispose it of when locals informed the police.
Police swiftly moved in, arrested Kumar and recovered the murder weapon.
The body has been sent for a postmortem and forensic examination is underway.
Anil Kumar, employed as a mason, was married in 2016 and has two children aged 1 and 5.
Senior police officers said based on a complaint by the victim’s father, an FIR has been lodged against Anil Kumar.
