Raza Murad recalls shooting with Kiran Kumar for Rishi Kapoor's ‘Henna’ in Manali


Mumbai, June 27 (IANS) Veteran actor Raza Murad shared a throwback picture with his longtime friend and FTII batchmate Kiran Kumar from the shoot in Manali for their 1991 film “Henna”.

Raza shared a vintage image with Kiran and talked about the characters, the outdoor shoot in Manali, and the memories they created while filming the Raj Kapoor directorial.

Raza wrote in the caption: “With my very dear friend of 57 years, Kiran Kumar.we were batch mates in film and television institute of India, pune from 1969 to 1971. We have done many films together,which includes “henna”.(1991) (sic).”

He added: “This pic was clicked during the shooting of Henna at at manali. He had played the memorable character of ashraf, henna’s elder brother, who sacrifices his life to save chander prakash (rishi kapoor) (sic).”

“Whereas I,had played the dreaded villian, the corrupt pakistani police officer, shahbaaz khan,who holds the entire village to ransom,to forcibly marry henna (zeba bakhtiyar) Have some very pleasant memories of this particular outdoor shoot. (sic).”

Henna was directed by Randhir Kapoor. It stars Rishi Kapoor, along with Pakistani actress Zeba Bakhtiyar and Ashwini Bhave. The film was planned and started by director Raj Kapoor, but due to his death before the filming, it was shot by his son Randhir.

The film followed the story of an Indian man, who suffers from amnesia after falling into a river that carries him to Pakistan. The Pakistani villagers take him in but tragedy strikes after he regains his memory.

Talking about Raza, the 75-year-old actor has showcased his prowess in film such as Prem Rog, Henna, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Khud-daar, Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Pyar Ka Mandir, Aankhen, Mohra, Gupt, Ek Hi Raasta, Jodhaa Akbar, TV series Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and Padmaavat.
