Ahmedabad, July 9 (IANS) Ahmedabad got a new Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Subhash Bridge on Thursday, with Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi saying the facility is designed to improve transparency and speed in the delivery of transport-related public services.
The modern RTO office, developed by the state government’s Ports and Transport Department, brings a range of vehicle and licensing services under one roof.
It includes separate counters for non-transport and transport-related vehicle services, new vehicle registrations, permits, fitness certification, blacklist-related work, driving licences, the DL and challan branch, RMA services, AMC tax payments and cash transactions.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the facility, Sanghavi said the state government was committed to providing “technology-driven, transparent and speedy services” to citizens. “The new office would make services, including driving licence-related work, more accessible and convenient,” he said.
Highlighting one of the key features of the new facility, the Deputy Chief Minister said the automated driving test track would ensure complete transparency in the licence issuance process.
“The automated driving test track will bring complete transparency to the driving licence process, and only applicants who meet the required standards will be granted driving licences,” he said.
Sanghavi also stressed the importance of coordination between elected representatives and the administration to ensure that government services reach every section of society.
“Public representatives and the administration must work in coordination so that the benefits of all government facilities reach the last citizen,” he said.
He appealed to visitors to help maintain the new premises, saying that keeping the office clean and well organised was a shared responsibility. “Preserving public property is the collective responsibility of every citizen,” he said.
Among those present at the inauguration were Urban Development Minister of State Darshana Vaghela; Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, Member of Parliament Dinesh Makwana, city BJP president Prerak Shah, several MLAs, Additional Chief Secretary Harit Shukla, Transport Commissioner Rajendrakumar, senior departmental officials and local residents.
