A ‘corpse’, jailed kin, a false case and a murdered woman’s second coming

The Madhya Pradesh police have been accused of fabricating the murder of a 14-year-old tribal girl, Kanchan Uike, in 2014, as part of a government initiative to reunite girls who had gone missing with their families. The police claimed to have recovered Uike’s body and arrested her father and brother for her murder. However, Uike returned home last week, alive and unaware of the accusations against her family. The case has highlighted the dangers of forced investigations and prompted calls for a thorough investigation.
