A new petition challenging the rules of the CAA was filed in the Supreme Court, seeking responses from the Central and Assam governments.

The Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from the Central and Assam governments on a petition challenging the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules 2024. The bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice J.B. Pardiwala heard arguments from a lawyer representing petitioner Hiren Gohain, a resident of Guwahati, and then issued notices to the state government, as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs.
