A powerful storm in northeastern Libya has led to devastating floods, with reports suggesting that over 10,000 people are missing and as many as 1,000 may have died in the city of Derna alone. Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused dams to break, resulting in the destruction of entire districts and the retrieval of hundreds of bodies from the rubble.

Tamer Ramadan, the head of the IRFC delegation in Libya, warned that the death toll could rise significantly, and the number of missing people has already reached 10,000, according to independent sources.

The European Union, Germany, and Italy have expressed their condolences and offered assistance to Libya. Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have dispatched rescue teams, while Algeria and Egypt have extended their condolences to the affected population.

The floods have led to strong water currents that have even moved cars to the edge of the city in Derna, Libya.
