Abduction case: Medical Board to examine Amarmani Tripathi set up

Lucknow: Acting on the directive of MP/MLA court in Basti, chief medical officer (Gorakhpur) Dr Ashutosh Dubey has constituted a medical board to examine former cabinet minister Amarmani Tripathi, who is receiving treatment at the BRD Medical College.

The constitution of the board came after the court of MP/ MLA presided over by session judge Pramod Giri on August 14 had asked why Amarmani Tripathi was unable to appear before the court. The case pertains to an abduction in 2001, in which Tripathi has been avoiding appearance for more than 20 years.

The court gave CMO time till September 15, the next date for hearing.

The court had also directed the Basti SHO Kotwali to visit Gorakhpur CMO and submit Tripathi’s medical report with the reason for his continued absence.

The court passed the order after Amarmani Tripathi’s lawyer informed it that his client was unable to appear before the court due to illness.

Government counsel Basti Devanand Singh said, “Tripathi was chargesheeted in the abduction case of Dharmraj Gupta’s son who was later recovered from Lucknow by the STF. The former minister, along with eight others, went to jail and got a bail,” added Singh.

Singh added that out of eight accused, Amarmani and two others Shivam Kumar and Nainish were out, and five others sent to jail.

“Nainish and Shivam Kumar are still elusive,” he added.

Recently, the state prisons department ordered the premature release of Tripathi and his wife Madhumani Tripathi in the 2003 Madhumita Shukla murder case.

Despite receiving their release orders on August 25, Tripathi has remained under medical observation at the BRD Medical College hospital with his wife.
