Washington, Sep 12 Two years after the sudden departure of US forces from Kabul, Afghanistan stands on the precipice of a civil war. The Taliban, once a unified entity, is now grappling with internal divisions, and the nation is rapidly transforming into a sanctuary for foreign terrorists, according to a former Afghan commander.
“I am deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan, which has become increasingly critical and perilous. It appears to be heading in a dangerous direction, potentially leading to another civil war or a partition of Afghanistan. Over the past two years, we have witnessed Afghanistan falling under the control of terrorists,” said Lt. Gen. Haibatullah Alizai. He held the position of Chief of Staff for the Afghan army when Kabul fell to the Taliban in August 2021, and he shared these insights in an interview with PTI.
Currently residing in the United States, Alizai has recently launched an initiative aimed at uniting Afghans living outside the country.
