After robbery bid, Meerut businessman, 73, wife, 65, dead

Lucknow: A day after a 73-year-old businessman and his wife were shot by two unidentified men while resisting a robbery bid at their house in Meerut’s Brahmpuri area, police said that the woman “struggling with injury, died of a heart attack after learning about her husband’s death”.

Vishnu Kaushik, SHO of Brahmpuri police station, said, “After the incident, both the victims — Dhankumar Jain, who was a sports goods trader, and his wife, Anju (65) — were rushed to a hospital where Jain succumbed to gunshot wounds to the chest on Thursday while Anju was undergoing treatment. She had suffered a bullet injury in her left hand. On Friday, at 4am, her blood pressure plummeted and she suffered a cardiac arrest after a family member told her about her husband’s demise.”

SP (city) Piyush Kumar said, “At the time of the crime, four members of the family were inside the house and were locked up in their rooms by the two armed robbers. It may have happened that Jain and his wife had identified the assailants and that’s why they were shot. The case is being investigated from all angles. We are looking for clues and the CCTV footage of the area is being examined to identify the robbers.”
