An affidavit has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of commissioners. The central government has opposed the demand to cancel the appointments due to the exclusion of the Chief Justice in the selection of election commissioners. In its response filed in the Supreme Court, the Centre stated that it is erroneous to argue that the commission will only be independent when the Chief Justice is included in the selection committee.
