An investigation has been initiated against leaders of the Seattle police union following the release of body camera footage in which an officer appeared to make callous remarks about the death of Jaahnavi Kandula, an Indian-origin woman killed by a police patrol vehicle earlier this year. The footage captured Officer Daniel Auderer making insensitive comments about the incident, including joking about the victim’s age and value. The Seattle Police Department referred the matter to the Office of Police Accountability (OPA) for investigation, citing concerns about the nature of the statements. The investigation will examine the context of the remarks and any potential policy violations. Jaahnavi Kandula, a graduate student from India, was tragically killed in the incident.
