News Street Live, Lucknow, April 19: Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP office, Union Minister Annapurna Devi launched a sharp attack on opposition parties over the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. She said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unprecedented work has been done since 2014 in the field of women’s economic and social empowerment, and now concrete steps were being taken to politically empower them as well.
She said, “The discussion in Parliament on the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Bill was meaningful, but opposition parties – including Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and DMK – hurt women’s aspirations by opposing the bill.”
The Union Minister alleged that, as always, these parties tried to delay, divert, and stall the passage of the bill. “For this reason, April 17 will be remembered as a Black Day,” she said. She added that women in the country are now aware and empowered, and are asserting their participation in every field. Women, she said, will respond democratically to those who stand against their rights.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, she said that despite being in power for a long time, Congress failed to give Other Backward Classes (OBCs) their due rights. She noted that it was the NDA government that granted constitutional status to the OBC Commission. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of appeasement politics, she said the Constitution does not permit reservations based on religion.
She further alleged that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are engaged in dynastic politics and have no concern for the interests of the people of the country.
