ATS gets 7-day remand of suspect with links to terror outfits

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh ATS got a seven-day remand of Bangladeshi national Mufkikar Hamidullah aka Sajid Ali Miyan, suspected of having links to proscribed terror groups Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), al-Qaida in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS). ATS said that Mufkikar was lodged in Kolkata jail but was wanted here in a case.

In 2022, UP ATS had busted an active module and arrested 11 people suspected to be members of AQIS and JMB. Mufkikar’s name had surfaced during interrogation. A Warrant B (production warrant) was sought, he was brought to Lucknow and produced before the special court and was given remand till October 21.

Additional DG ATS, Mohit Agarwal said that in August 2022 Mufkikar was arrested by NIA from Jabalpur in MP. Later, he was taken to Dum Dum jail as he had several cases registered against him in West Bengal.

ATS sources said that Mufkikar had stayed in Saharanpur and allegedly brainwashed youths to wage war against India.

Sources added that the suspect is highly radicalised and stayed in UP for long, so will be taken to Saharanpur and interrogated about other members.
