
It is reported that the Bill on Criminal Procedures is in line with the Centre’s Digital India initiative and aims to promote greater use of technology allowing trials through video-conferencing. The bill also proposes that no sanction will be required to prosecute a government official in cases such as sexual offenses and trafficking.

It proposes significant changes to the criminal justice system, including allowing the attachment of properties of proclaimed offenders in India and abroad and the use of handcuffs for the arrest of persons in certain cases.The Indian Judicial Code (BNS) Bill and the Indian Evidence (BS) Bill were also introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday and they will replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. All the three proposed bills have been sent to a parliamentary panel for further scrutiny.
